分娩过程是否顺利直接影响胎儿和母体健康。现代化牧场中，批次化生产已经成为提高养殖效益的重要方式。其中人工控制母畜分娩时间、降低分娩相关疾病（如胎盘滞留等）是降低管理成本，提高繁殖效率的关键。近年来，周虚教授课题组针对奶牛养殖中出现的胎盘滞留问题展开研究，筛选出了启动分娩的重要分子（已申请专利），开发出了降低奶牛胎盘滞留的关键技术（已申请专利），并在规模化奶牛场进行了推广应用，效果显著。
